Crockpot BBQ Pulled Pork

So this is one of my easiest recipes I make and it is ALWAYS a crowd pleaser. All you need are a handful of ingredients and a crock pot.

What You'll Need:

  • 1 pork butt

  • About 2 tbs. of Butt Rub (that is the actual name of the brand lol)

  • Salt, pepper, and garlic powder (to taste, I like a lot!)

  • Either 3 tbs. of onion powder or one medium-sized white onion sliced; my kids don't like onions so I use onion powder.

  • 3/4 can of Coke-a-cola (I switch it up sometimes and use Dr. Pepper too)

  • 1/2 a bottle of - has to be - Sweet Baby Rays Original BBQ Sauce. I add more once I have shredded the pork but I eyeball that depending on the occasion. For parties, I typically don't add much more so my guests can control the sauce-to-meat ratio.

Instructions:

  1. Add your pork butt to your crockpot.

  2. Add the seasonings, soda, and BBQ sauce.

  3. I like to top that with just a little more of the seasonings and BBQ sauce - just a little sprinkle or splash of each.

  4. Turn crockpot on low for 8 hours, flip your pork butt after 4 hours.

  5. Once your meat is tender and falling apart, strain, and shred with 2 large forks or shredding mitts.

  6. Add more BBQ sauce as needed and serve!

If you are making baked beans to serve with your pulled pork, I always add a few tablespoons of the BBQ pulled pork juice (after about 5 to 6 hours of cooking) to my beans for extra flavor and let them slow cook on the stove for a bit.

This dish always pairs well with traditional Southern dishes like baked beans, mac'n'cheese, collard greens, and coleslaw but it's also great for pulled pork tacos!
