Homemade Chili

Writer: Gabrielle HegertGabrielle Hegert

This is the first dish I crave once we hit some cold weather! Chili is the perfect game day dish and always hits the spot on a chilly day. My chili recipe is an easy one AND is also easily modified!

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of diced tomatoes

  • 1 can of red kidney beans

  • 1 can of pinto beans

  • 1 package of chili seasoning mix

  • 1 lb. of ground beef, ground turkey, or impossible meat

  • 1 bag of frozen onion and pepper stir fry

  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Brown your meat (or meat substitute), use a spatula to break up the meat while it cooks. You should end up with cooked crumbles.

  2. Add your peppers and onion, let simmer until they soften.

  3. Add the beans, chili mix, salt, pepper, and diced tomatoes.

  4. Cook on low for 3-5 hours at least (the longer the better).

  5. Once you are ready to serve, you can garnish with cheddar cheese, sour cream, green onion, Fitos or anything else your family loves! I love serving it with rice and biscuits.
